TWO LOCAL RUNOFF VOTES IN EASTERN GERMANY were won by the Alternativ für Deutschland (AfD), now the country's most successful far-right party since World War II.

Robert Sesselmann won the June 25th District Administrator election in Sonneberg, a small district in east Germany's Thuringia state. It was the first time a candidate from the far-right party was elected to head a government. A district administrator does not have much clout, but jubilant AfD leaders are hoping the victory will herald far greater political success.

Joerg Meuthen, AfD Chairman, directs much-needed fire to his party's detractors

Jörg Meuthen: The AfD stands for non-violent discourse, which many media deny us.

I love this commentary from Meuthen which was posted on the Alternative for Deutschland website. It openly expresses the disgust he feels at the low blows that are consistently directed AfD's way from the entirety of the "respectable" immigration-loving, German-supressing parties and media that have held sway in the Federal Republic since it's beginning. Meuthen really lets go here, while maintaining his own dignified composure. Germany needs lots more of this. -CY

Berlin, 24 June 2019: What happened yesterday on ARD's Anne Will programme is probably the absolute low point in German talk show history to date - and at the same time a highlight of GEZ* brainwashing for the less informed television viewer. *[GEZ - processing center for German TV and radio licenses. DISAPPOINTINGLY (BUT FOR THE SAKE OF PARTY HEALING OBVIOUSLY), the leader of the AfD in Thuringia state took a step back and, while speaking at a state party meeting today (Saturday) in Arnstadt announced, “"I took a big, important topic and unfortunately turned it into beer hall talk. That was a mistake. For that, I would like to apologize here."

He was referring to a speech in Dresden on January 17 in which he correctly described the grotesque Berlin Holocaust memorial as a “monument to shame” and said Germans should instead be encouraged to look forward to a proud future, not always back to a past of only 12 years length. Those words were well-received by the AfD youth organization to which he was speaking, but naturally brought loud criticism from the center and left political parties and establishment Jews.

PEGIDA's Lutz Bachmann found guilty in corrupt German court

Lutz Bachmann speaking at a PEGIDA demonstration.

WHAT ELSE COULD ONE EXPECT?

A district court in the eastern German city of Dresden ruled on Tuesday, May 3, that Lutz Bachmann must pay a penalty of 9,600 euros ($11,044), after being found guilty of the idiotic charge of inciting hatred, a German legal specialty originating from the American occupation of Germany that began in 1945.

Prosecutors asked for a seven-month prison sentence (!) for using the words cattle, scum and trash on Facebook to describe foreign terrorists coming into the country from Africa and West Asia. Imagine, 7 months in prison for something as tame as that!

Bachmann's attorney had asked for an aquittal. The verdict is not yet legally binding pending a 3rd court session on May 10.
