Website shut down by huge DOS attack

The dedicated server that hosts carolynyeager.net and eliewieseltattoo.com was under a huge DOS-style attack on Saturday and Sunday which managed to totally shut down both sites for most of Sunday.

My server company 1and1.com was very helpful in monitoring the situation and getting me back online late Sunday. I have experienced such attacks in the past, but never on such a massive scale. My server is large and my present use is only a small percentage of its capacity, so from that the size of this attack, that brought the demands made on it close to capacity, can be judged. Everyone should remember that DOS attacks are illegal, a criminal activity. Who is most likely to be behind this latest attack on Carolyn Yeager? Think about it. Cyber crimminals should be shunned by all.

I wonder if it was some Russian hackers who didn't like your recent posts. Maybe they have some opinions on Gen. Vlasov too

I really don't think that's it. I think it's much more local than that.

dailystormer.com also seems to be under attack again.

Yes, I noticed that.

News stories are coming out regarding cyberattack againat the KKK website by a group that calls themselves "Annonymous".  They wear the stupid "Guy Fawkes" mask made popular by the childish comic and movie "V for Vendetta".  They think they are radical and anti-establishment but they are becoming more like conforming Marxist hacks trying to break into the mainstream.  Let's see them cyberattack websites such as the $PLC or the ADL.  They probably actually think hacking your website was courageous; what a bunch of cowards.

Just to let the hackers know, your attack has inspired me to make another donation to Carolyn Yeager in the name of free speech.

I have received it. Much appreciated!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I wonder if "hacking" is the right word. The purpose of DOS (denial of service) is to overload the server so that it becomes a long wait to access it or to move around on the pages, to the point of complete denial. Hacking is more serious in that it is breaking into the site's inner workings and deleting/changing/stealing things, etc.

I purposely chose an image that did not depict "hacking" or the stealing of information, such as bank account passwords and credit card information. But even DOS is criminal but I don't know who would enforce it. No one.

That is a good point Carolyn; "hacker" can be a generic term for someone who exploits a computer system's weakness or it can be someone who breaches a computer's security system and illegally gains access to confidential information.  An example of the latter would be the so called "Climategate" where they hacked into a server at the University of East Anglia and got into the emails of several climate scientists.
